Would love to know more about this if anyone is in the know ....

Vietnam sniper crawled for 3 days, 2000 meters through open field killed NVA General and crawed back without being seen. Awesome job.

That was Carlos Hathcock, called White Feather by the Cong and NVA - he had a pigeon feather habitually shoved in the foliage band of his boonie hat. He died a few years back; 1999 I believe.

While he was no question one heck of a sniper, there are some who believe he, shall we say, stretched the accounts of his exploits just a bit. The fact that he often worked alone rather than as part of a team made independent verification of the details of many of his missions impossible. However, all of the kills he claimed were confirmed.

Good pics. Thanks Bob.
I'll see if I can find any from way back then. Mine are mostly of the Philippines, Subic Bay and Olongapo City.

58,202 KIA in Vietnam.
Over 300000 were wounded.
Out of 9 million who served actively during the conflict over 1 million have passed away so far.

She seemed to feel we should be ashamed of serving there.

What the hell are kids being taught about the Vietnam War in school? It appears they are being given the Hanoi John Kerry version, the one where everyone who served there is a war criminal. And yes, he said precisely that in a Congressional hearing; everyone who fought over there is a war criminal!

I have to wonder what the school textbooks say about the Vietnam War (which was never declared a war ...but called a 'conflict'). We who served in 'Nam' did not start the war. We answered the call when our nation called and ordered us to go there. I suppose it is hard for young ones to understand that even though a war can be seen as wrong in hind sight (ie: Iraq) the men and women who served as our nations leaders ordered were not at fault in any way. They are all heros. They answered the call when others would not. Remember ...one has to be young and stupid before one can be older and wiser.

Remember when one had to wear their uniform when traveling or on leave or liberty. They changed that rule when I was in boot camp. I was glad. Who wants to be spit on or scorned and cussed at for serving? Our nation was collectively against the war much like many are against President Trump. Vietnam vets were never thanked, never welcomed home. Sad sad state of affairs but what has been done can never be undone. It hurt. Some of the thanks today helps some, but does not undue the wrong. It is what it is.
